Young cricketers Malamba and Victor lead the way
The hard work put in at practice is starting to pay off.
A NUMBER of junior cricketers from the South Coast are showing they can compete with their Durban opponents.
In the recent U13 Glenwood Cup, the South Coast team managed a creditable sixth place out of 14 schools.
Against Athlone Park, South Coast scored 187 for 1 in 20 overs and then kept Athlone Park to just 82 for 6, thus winning by 105 runs.
Jaco Victor scored 99 not out, while BJ Malamba scored 44 runs.
Jaco also took two wickets for six runs, while Micah Naidoo took two wickets for 10 runs. Kelli Ashington also took a wicket.
In the second match, opponents Pelham made 130 runs and bowled South Coast out for 109 in 19.4 overs.
Major contributors were BJ Malamba (23), Kelli Ashington (20), Tyler Hogan (17) and Luyanda Majola (16).
Best of the South Coast bowlers were Micah Naidoo (2-18 in 4), while Reece Murray and Jaco Victor each took one wicket.
South Coast then amassed 172 for 6 in 20 overs against Scottburgh, before restricting them to 139 for 6 in reply.
BJ Malamba scored 61 runs, Reece Murray got 24 and Kelli Ashington made 23 not out.
In the last game, against Glenwood Prep to determine fifth or sixth spot, rain stopped play so there was no result.
South Coast’s leading batsmen were BJ Malamba (138), Jaco Victor (123) and Kelli Ashington (65).
Best bowlers were Jaco Victor (4), Micah Naidoo (4). Kelli Ashington (3), Reece Murray (3).
