Halfway Toyota Margate Challenge tees off

The tournament will be played over three days at Margate Country Club.

HIBISCUS Coast Municipality mayor Cynthia Mqwebu struck the opening tee shot of this year’s Halfway Toyota Shelly Beach Margate Challenge.

She was closely watched by Brian Jones, dealer principal at the local Halfway dealership, deputy mayor Johnny de Wet, and the 120-odd golfers who have entered.

The tournament has grown in stature over the past few years, and this year looks set to be another resounding success.

Among the field were defending champions Koko Zithumane and Sbu Ntozakhe, multiple club champion Ivan Curlewis, and many visitors from upcountry.

There is a prize for the first golfer to ace the par three 16th on Saturday, a Toyota Aygo!
