Work to do for bruised Warriors
It was a rough start to the season for the local rugby team.
THE Riversmead Warriors had a less-than-desirable start to the province’s premier rugby league last Saturday, losing 65-16 to Toti at Growthpoint King’s Park.
However, coach Christo Henderson has been quick to look for positives ahead of Friday night’s game against Durban Collegians at Douglas Mitchell Sports Ground.
Kick-off is at 8.30pm but will be preceded by an official kit handover with sponsor Paul Apostolides at 6pm.
The second team plays at 7pm, while the U20s play Varsity College in Durban at 7pm.
There was a feeling that Toti benefited from some 50-50 calls, but that’s rugby.
“We just need to get our heads right going forward,” said the coach. “We knew it would be tough, but at the same time also realised that we can match these guys,” he added.
It’s worth noting that Toti beat Collegians a few weeks back, so is hardly a team that can be written off.
The Warriors’ man of the match was Vincent Fibiger.
There were a few injury concerns, which are being assessed. One of the concerns was Lourens Stapelberg, who suffered some concussion last Saturday.
Points were scored by: Jaques Petzer-Moore (two penalties), Juan van den Berg (try), Xolani Daniels (try).
Toti ran in seven tries, slotted four conversions and landed two penalties.
The Warriors second team also had a tough game, losing 65-3.
