Exciting MTB series is under way
The South Coast has some fantastic events lined up for cyclists and runners.
THE 2016 South Coast MTB Series was officially launched at San Lameer Estate last Saturday.
This brand new series seeks to highlight the beautiful terrain, scenery and challenging routes found on the South Coast.
Five events have been included in the inaugural inception under one banner.
Race 1: Port Edward Holiday Resort Burry Stander MTB and Trail Run Sardine Festival on July 2 and 3.
Race 2: Ingeli Forest MTB Race at Ingeli Forest Lodge on July 24.
Race 3: Scottburgh MTB Race on August 14.
Race 4: Lake Eland Quattro Classic on October 2.
Race 5: Wild Coast Sun MTB and Trail Run Challenge on October 29 and 30.
There were various reasons the organisers wanted to start this series.
One is that the entries for races on the coast are commonly lost to events in Pietermaritzburg, Durban and the North Coast, and also the current MTB calendar is very full.
Benefits of racing in this series include the great coastal climate and wonderful winter weather, minimal rain and bigger prize money.
The series ‘challenge’ entry to all entrants is to enter all five races but only pay for four, and receive a limited edition Powerade golf shirt.
A prize-giving ceremony will take place at the Wild Coast Sun on Saturday, October 29 after the final race in the series.
First placed male and female riders will receive R5 000.
This pioneer initiative is supported by South Coast Tourism, Tiago’s, Signmaster, Bundubashers MTB Club, ROAG, Burry Stander Foundation and One Way Productions.
