From the bowling greens: Remembering Doug Watson

MARGATE BC
THE Doug Watson Memorial/Expro Classic was rained out after the first day but that did not dampen the spirits of everyone who took part.
Thanks are expressed to all those who played a part in making it a huge success, in particular Johnny Louch.
Congratulations to the winners Eddie Fann, Roy Anderson, Pam Cole-Cook and Vi Pells.
In second place were John and Delysia Mitchell and Ross and Sandy Ferguson and in third place were Ken Tonge, Wayne van Nikkelen-Kuyper, Lynn James and Georgie McKechnie.
Winners of the Margate Panelbeaters men’s 2-4-2 were Roy Deakens and John Lloyd.
Runners-up were Bill Brown and Rennie Geyer.
First session to Dave Hume and John Keppler; second session to Ernie Southward and Derek McKechnie.
50/50 board was won by Gerry Duff.
Monthly quiz evening will take place on Wednesday, November 16.
Next comp is the Manaba Kwikspar women’s 2-bowl trips on Friday (18th).
The Friday night attendance draw was won by Manny Rodriques in his absence and the tabs draw was won by Rene Hannaway.
‘Toys for Joy’ evening to be held on Saturday, November 19.

HIBBERDENE
THE bowling green opened last Wednesday with a mixed drawn fours, sponsored by Tiago’s Open Flame. Results next week.
Then, last Friday, the nominated mixed trips were won by Gloria Gerrard, Fay Patterson and Dennis ‘The Menace’ Lewis.
Runners-up were John and Judy Hoyer with Judy Aiston.
Session went to Werner Mody, Napier Verster and Bill Enkerwitz.
Hibberdene Pharmacy nominated mixed trips this Friday (11th).
No social bowls this Saturday as the club is hosting league games.

MARGATE CC
CONGRATS to Pam Cole-Cook, Dora Vosloo, Vi Pells and Jo Olivier on winning the Hair Shoppe women’s fours.
Runners-up were Kobie Stander, Helen Proctor, Marie Rogers and Winnie Hess.
Marie Rogers won the 50/50 draw. On duty next week are Norma, Eileen and Mike Green.

MUNSTER
THE Indulgence mixed pairs should have been played last Wednesday but was was rained off.
The 30 Club draw winner was Rita Zietsman. Second was Eileen van der Lith, followed by Trish Houbert and Joey Anderson.
Collections have started for the Christmas hampers. Donations can be left at the club.

PORT EDWARD
WAITING is over, finally … and tabs in will take place this Saturday, November 12 at 1.30pm for 2pm.
Coaching for new bowlers starts next Monday (14th) at 4pm.
Book with Sariena at 082 9046866 for the Wild West Cowboy Dress Up on November 19.
Cost is R50 pp, with a chuck and grub menu.
Remember, Sundowners this Friday (11th) at 4.30pm.

PORT SHEPSTONE
ON a sunny but rather windy Thursday morning the South Coast Herald monthly business day comp was held.
Winners were Maureen Muller, Johannie Theron, Pat Maggs and Sandra van Niekerk.
Runners-up were Bez Bezuidenhout, Maureen Jonker, Sharon Bischoff and Rentie Stevens.
The group toucher prize was won by Eddie Fann, Howard Frizelle, John Nadauld and Elena Frizelle.

RIVERSIDE
WELL done to Sheelah Nel, Ray Visser and Gerald Crerar, winners of the two-jack bowls, followed by Chummy Smith, Ann Gibson and Ann Osbourn.
Friday Nite Jokers Wild and Buy n Braai, the jackpot R2900. Draw at 6.30pm, must be there to win it.
Tabs in Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, 1.45pm for 2pm.

SOUTHBROOM
THE green was opened again on October 31 by Lorraine Wijtman, who rolled the first bowl in honour of her late husband Hans, who died on September 19 and who had been the club president at the time.
Summer time tabs now apply – Monday, Wednesday and Saturdays at 2pm for 2.30pm and Fridays at 3pm for 3.30pm.
The Mariner’s open fours were won by Shane Nienaber, Dieter Scholtz, Barbara Brook and Ian Hutton.
Runners-up were Barry Payn, Arthur Ronaldson, Mike Gower and Pippa Rowney.
First session winners were Heather Roberts, Margie Purkiss, Sean Larkins and Monika Zunker.
Second session to Graham Fisher, René Jover, Faan Behrens and Julia Morley.
The 50/50 was won by Janet Larkins.

THE BELL
WINNERS of the Jaxx/Venture Inn open trips were Bez Bezuidenhout with John and Bruce Hoyer.
Runners-up were Louw and Michelle Vermeulen with Willy Knott. Session prize went to Tina and Geoff Barbour with Therese Barron.
The Captain’s Anchor mixed fours were won by Hew Hodgson, Renzo van Niekerk, Caroline Harris and Mada Lindeque.
Runners-up were Peet and Susan van Rooyen, Louw Vermeulen and Charmaine van Deventer.
The session prize went to Tickey and Denise Nel with Kevin Mullen and Anne-Marie Giblin.
Christmas lunch will be on December 16.

TWENI
TAMMY Gibbons and Mike Mannion won the Harbour View SuperSpar mixed trips from Geoff and Tina Barbour.
Vell Mannion and Marie Pick took the session prize.
Congratulations to Peter Giblin on winning R200 in the October Joker Jackpot draw.
Next event is the Schooners mixed trips next Monday (14th) in the morning.
This is also the date of closing of the green for annual maintenance.

VILLAGE
DENZIL Massyn, Gary Hess and Carl Volker won last week’s Hibiscus Retirement Villages men’s trips.
They were followed by Ron Canning, Reg Sanders and Rennie Geyer.
Sessions were won by Alan Tyers, Brian Hughes and Manny Piquito, as well as Dereck Schorn, Lucas Barnard and Mike Ryan. Hein Bester won the 50/50 draw.
Due to the KBA Sevens League the next competition will be Hibiscus Insurance Brokers’ mixed trips on Thursday, November 17.
The draw is out for the club men’s pairs, please play your games asap.
The rained out drawn mixed trips, sponsored by Food Lover’s Market, will be played this Saturday (12th). Tabs in by 1.15pm.
Don’t forget donations for the Christmas hamper to be handed to a committee member or in at the bar.
Bring and braai at lunchtime this Sunday (13th).
