Karateka talent on display
Karate is a martial art with a unique history, philosophy and set of techniques.
THE Shihans and senseis affiliated to the World Karate Federation (WKF) Ugu karate region, Karate KwaZulu-Natal and Karate South Africa (KSA) held another successful tournament at Creston College last Saturday.
More than 100 karateka took part, from five years old to veterans.
Many medals were won as teams competed in kata, kumite and unison.
Local Sensei Frank Moodley of Port Shepstone Shotokan Karate Club said that the standard of karate was definitely improving as a result of South Coast dojos working together.
“Karateka from dojos from Scottburgh to Margate participated enabling them to experience tournament karate at its best and at the same time, make friends with other like-minded karate students,” explained Sensei Moodley. “The discipline of all students was exemplary.”
Senseis Rodney Govender and Sensei Danric Verster of Durban, who were chief and centre referees, were thanked for travelling to the South Coast and imparting their knowledge and support to the students.
WKF Ugu karateka are now working hard for their next challenge, the Salga DSR 2016 games.
