Golfers remember Graham Scowby
There was a surprise prize thrown into the mix as well.
GRAHAM Scowby was one of the characters at Margate Country Club and he is sorely missed by all and sundry there.
Last Saturday the Graham Scowby Memorial Day took place, played as a betterball Stableford.
Winners were Terence Shuttleworth and Steve Payn on 50 points, followed by Jim Finn and Keith Duncalf on 46 points.
They counted out Sandi Johnston and Shannon Gottlieb, as well as Edwin Steyn and Patrick Mavundla.
On 45 points were Barry Oehme and Guy Yeadon, as well as Lexley Lewis and Barbara Jackson.
One point behind them were Graeme Massam and Dolf Willemse, joined by Robin Shuttleworth and Keith Shuttleworth.
Nearest the pins went to Steve Payn (2nd), Julie Gerber (4th), Piet Ludick (11th) and Margaret Taylor (16th). Brian Jolliffe was nearest for two on the 12th.
The ‘Scowby Back Nine’ prize went to Fanie and Ettienne Terblanche on 24 points, on a countout.
Graham’s philosophy was play the back nine well and there’s a chance of taking money from Angus McLachlan.
Sandi Johnston, Hilary Hendry and Lynne Meek won the women’s alliance at Margate Country Club last Tuesday on 94 points.
The next day, the Wobblers’ alliance was won by Wimpie Jordaan, Frank Merrill and Otto Mutschler on 84 points.
They counted out Piet Pretorius, André Henn and Hanz Beilhartz.
In third place were Nico van Vuuren, Cyril Greensmith and Dave Parsons on 83 points.
The Arthur Tomlinson Floater went to Richard Plaskitt, James Tutt and John Gibson on 72 points.
Thursday’s individual Stableford was won by Ivan Curlewis on 38 points, by one from Johan Wentzel.
Nearest the pins were won by Flip Fourie (4th) and Johan Stoltz (16th).
