Golfers ‘walk like Egyptians’ at Southbroom

The tournament was well supported once again.

PHARAOH Construction business day winners at Southbroom Golf Club last week Friday were Jan Roos, Brandon Saunders, Errol Rudman and Roy Watkins.

They scored 93 points to win by three from Dries Barkhuizen, Nic van Deventer, Frik van Zyl and Johan Erasmus.

They in turn counted out Doug Milne, Patrick Mavundla, Ronnie Mtshaka and Edwin Steyn.

In fourth place on 89 points were Gordon Moody, Dave Page, with Kerry and Mari Fielden.

Fifth spot went to Lance Marshall, Roy Deakins, with Roger and Heleen Hissey, on 88 points.

Saturday’s comp was won by Rene Matthew, Gjertrud Kok, Allyson Thomas and Augi D’Ewes on 83 points.

In second spot on 81 points were Lizzie Currie, Geraldine Treherne, Janet Humphrey and ‘Casper’.

The men played for the Captain’s Trophy, which was won by John Lison on nett 72.

Bob Thomas had the lowest nett on the day, 69, but hadn’t qualified for the Captain’s Trophy.

Gary Purtell had nett 74.

John Neaves won the Stableford on 41 points, counting out George Haswell.

Dave Page was third on 39 points, counting out Malcolm Moorley.

The previous Wednesday’s comp was won on 43 points by Irene Schanda and Di Morris, by two from Rene Matthew and Heleen Hissey.

In third on 38 points were Mari Fielden and Sandy Luus.

In the men’s comp, winners were Bob Clark and Brian Hoggart on 48 points, counting out Piet Joubert and John Lison.

Third went to Joe Carolan and Paul Cole on 46 points.
