Motivating juniors to play tennis

Juniors achieved the highest possible level in tennis through intensive group training.

FITNESS for kids is part of the government’s health programme initiative and there is no better way to give your child a really fun workout than introducing them to tennis. With this in mind a number of junior tennis players gathered for their coaching session at the Uvongo Tennis Club last Saturday.

Form, accuracy, point of contact, strength, hand/eye coordination and timing were the essentials discussed with the junior players.

They also found out that their serve should always be their chief weapon. They were taught how to develop a serve that would earn them two to three free points per game.

The players learned to clean up the most complicated technical hurdles they all faced. They worked on their back swing, point of contact and followed through with powerful spins. One coach, Howard Osbourne said the results were astonishing.

“I was blown away as all the juniors improved in every aspect of their game and gained in strength, accuracy and power.”

One tennis player Enye Vundle of Margate said that he was blown away by the positive results he gained after coaching. “I noticed a massive difference in my point of contact, in the strength of my shoulders, the smoothness of my delivery, and the sharpness of my serving motion.”
