District bowlers prepare for Quadrangular
THE executive would like to wish all the district sides good luck and good bowling in the Quadrangular in Maritzburg this weekend.
Also, good luck to Eddie Fann, Ellen Cawker and Pam Cole-Cook who will be playing in the SA Senior Masters at the Wanderers next Friday and Saturday and hopefully Sunday.
The finals on Sunday (12th) will be streamed live on www.streamit306.tv/#805 from about 11.30am.
A reminder that the entries for the men’s and women’s trips, midweek league and men’s and women’s novices have been sent out, so please get your entries in before the closing date.
The draw for the mixed pairs will be done at the next executive meeting, which is next Monday (6th).
The executive would like to welcome Jessica Henderson onto the committee.
Jessica’s wealth of bowls knowledge will be invaluable to the district.
BANNERS REST
FIRST leg of the 2-4-2 mixed pairs ladder, sponsored by Peter Bennett and Wild Coast Golden Moon Spur, played last Wednesday was won by Brian and Pam Cole-Cook.
Second were Gino Alilovic and Jaye Russell, and third Ron Camps and Maureen van der Poel. Jaye also collected the 50/50 board.
Next sponsored competitions are the GP Security mixed pairs this Friday (3rd), the Tops Port Edward men’s pairs this Sunday (5th), and the SuperSpar Port Edward 2-bowl mixed trips next Wednesday (8th).
HIBBERDENE
DRAWN mixed trips, sponsored by Blue Waters and Cutting Edge played last Friday was won by Eddie Milne with John and Judy Hoyer.
Brian Pirrie, Sylvia Pretorius and Pauline Howle were runners-up.
Session went to Paul Grutter, Werner Mody and Napier Verster.
There will be mixed trips this Friday sponsored by Tiago’s Open Flame.
MARGATE BC
ALAN and Ann Gibson won the Mugg & Bean open 2-4-2 competition last Friday.
Runners-up were Dave Morrison and Annette Saunders.
First session to Bob Smith and Gerry Davey; second session to Ross and Sandy Ferguson
R250 Spar voucher (50/50) was won by Maureen Glanfield.
Due to the Quadrangular and SA Masters tournaments no league bowls will be played over the next two weekends but club competitions are ongoing.
There will be a Valentine’s Brunch on Tuesday, February 14 from 11am, with bowls to follow. Come dressed in red and white.

MUNSTER
KRAFTY Chameleon mixed trips winners were Leigh Warner, Rick Harding and Beryl Laurent.
Runners-up were Rob Lyle, Helen Cock and Pat Brand. Second session to Louise Dry, Joey Anderson and Rory Lawson. Board to Helen Cock.
After tabs this Saturday (4th) the 30 Club draw will be followed by a bring and braai, salad to share.
PORT EDWARD
JOHN Keppler and Hazel Delaney won the Wilcote mixed pairs last week, from Elbé Snyman and Mike Gower.
Session went to Mac McKenzie and Val Smith. Board was won by Ken Simm.
Come and enjoy sundowners this Friday at 4.30pm and take part in the ‘heart beat’.
Winners will be announced at the ‘Affair of the Heart’ on February 10.

PORT SHEPSTONE
THE official opening of B green took place last Friday, which coincided with the monthly Business Day Challenge.
Winners were the Rough Cutters on 23 points, namely Brett Pollington, Gordon Dickson and Roy Matkovich.
Runners-up were Kieron Darcy, Pat Maggs and Winnie Hess.
Third spot went to Ron Weddell, Mike and Cheryl Thompson. Fourth went to John Bloch, Don Wiid and Kathy Simpson.
In league, the A side won 3-2 against AMBC A, whilst the B side lost 3-2 to Margate BC.
The C side played away at AMBC against their B side and lost 3-2.
Harbour View SuperSpar trips were won by Eddie Fann, Howard Frizelle and Caroline Harris.
Runners-up were Brian Rawlins, Lynden Wright and Annette Suther. Session prize was won by John Bloch, Don Wiid and Kathy Simpson.
RIVERSIDE
CONGRATS to Pauline and Graham Dunlop, winners of the Food Lover’s Market 2-4-2, followed by Jo and Martiens Olivier.
Sessions went to Anjie and Graham Gold, Sharon and Herman Scheinberg.

SOUTHBROOM
GRAHAM Fisher, Steve Evans and Julia Morley won the Wolf Security open trips last week.
Runners-up were Chris Faber, Elliot Nqoko and Lorraine Wijtman.
First session to René Jover, Brent Addison and Faan Behrens; second session to Margie Purkiss, Jimmy Ronald and Trebla Lansdell.
SOUTHPORT
THE Harbour View SuperSpar women’s trips played last Thursday was won by Ann Barkway, Denise Nel and Sandy Shepherd.
Second place went to Jane Massam, Shirley Russouw and Lyn Harris.
Barbara Fernihough, Tina Barbour and Ann-Marie Giblin took the second session prize.
The Geochem trips were won by Geoff Kelleher, Jane Massam and Cosmos Gumede with Bob Macfarlane, Peter Anderson and Nora Swart runners-up.
THE BELL
ORCA Restaurant sponsored mixed trips were won by Maureen Head, Angela Moorhouse and Tony Olivant.
Runners-up were Sandy and Stan Penny with Phil Viljoen. Session prize went to Alan Mandy, Maureen Vorster and Pam Schutte.
Club members who are playing in the quadrangular competition in Pietermaritzburg are wished good bowling.
The Captain’s Anchor mixed fours will be played on February 10. This is a change of date.
TWENI
PETER and Gerda Clark won the recent Harbour View SuperSpar mixed pairs, with second place going to Tammy Gibbons and Frank Jardine.
Session went to Daphne Hounsell and Tony Aveyard.
Members and visitors please note that as of February 1 new times will be 2.45pm (tabs) for play at 3pm.
VILLAGE
WINNERS of the Hopdens Kwikspar mixed 2-4-2 were Gary Hess and Dawn Oehley, followed by Mike and Cheryl Thompson.
Sessions went to Brian and Nancy Hughes and to John Sutton and Betty Bolton. Jean Dean won the 50/50.
Next competitions are Hibiscus Retirement Villages’ men’s trips on February 7 and Hibiscus Brokers’ mixed trips on February 9.
The in-house Food Lover’s Market drawn mixed trips will be played this Saturday (4th) at 1.15pm.
RAC draw and bring and braai will be held this Friday (3rd).
