Blue Ocean Aquatics swimmers slash seconds off their times in the pool
The dedicated club has seen its members show much improvement.
BLUE Ocean Aquatics Swimming Club took part in the level 1 and 2 provincial championship at Kings Park last weekend.
The club had nine swimmers in the level 2 championships and four in the level 1 championship.
Level 2 championships saw Blue Ocean place seventh out of 23 clubs, winning five gold medals, four silver and five bronze.
Ava-Mae Lilje won gold for 50m, 100m and 200m freestyle, and bronze for 100m backstroke.
Janine Oosthuizen won a bronze medal for the 100m freestyle.
Hannah Scott won a bronze medal for the 200m freestyle and had an overall improvement of 29.08 seconds.
Nelzaan Strydom won gold for the 400m freestyle, silver for 200m IM and 200m freestyle, bronze for the 100m freestyle.

Nelzaan also qualified for the next level in two events, so she is now a level 3 swimmer. She also improved on her times by 49.74 seconds.
Ricardo Carthew won gold in the 100m back, silver for 200m freestyle and 50m backstroke and bronze for 400m freestyle.
Daniel Fisher had great swims this weekend and improved on his times overall by 27.94 seconds.
Gemma Allchin also had great improvements with an overall 15.48 second drop in time.
Level 1 provincial championship saw Tayne Rudling, Tharien Venter, Winé Koekemoer and Amber Vorster participate over two days of swimming.
Amber Vorster brought home the gold bag with four gold medals in 50m, 100m and 200m breaststroke and the 200m IM.
Then she also won a bronze medal in the 50m freestyle. She went on to swim two level 2 qualifying times and will be moving up to the next level next season.
Winé Koekemoer also won medals in the 200m backstroke, she came second and won a bronze in the 100m backstroke.
Tharien Venter had some wonderful swims and clocked an overall improvement of 29.61 seconds for her swims.
Tayne Rudling also improved by 19.68 seconds on his swims.
Now it’s time to focus on the regional and national events coming up in three weeks’ time, where swimmers will be competing in Durban for SA Junior Nationals, and in Sasolburg for the Level 2 and regional championship.
