Mud, Sharks rugby and beers at Douglas Mitchell Sports Ground
It was a cracking match, despite the pretty poor conditions.
THE Douglas Mitchell Sports Ground played host to a historic match involving the Cell C Sharks XV and the visiting Leopards from North West Province last Saturday.
It wasn’t the main Shark team, the one that plays Super Rugby, but the players were still very good and included former Sharks captain Keegan Daniel.
The league this team is in is the SuperSport Challenge.

The match was nearly called off due to the heavy rain which lashed the coast late last week.
Fortunately it lifted just enough for the game to be played.
It was intense, with the level of rugby certainly more than a step or two up from the league the Riversmead Warriors play in.
There were bone-crunching tackles, for sure.
The match was a bit like an old-fashioned Test match, played in the mud and driving rain.
No quarter was given and the Sharks XV had to fight hard for their win. The scoreline was 32-5 at the end, but the first half in particular was close.
Despite the rain, there was an excellent crowd.
There was a fantastsic atmosphere and the clubhouse was jam-packed. One of the big highlights was having Sharks mascot Sharkie on hand, posing for photos and generally doing his (very funny) thing.
Children played their own games next to the field, seemingly oblivious to the rain.
Hopefully more games of this nature will find their way to the South Coast.
* The day before the Riversmead Warriors lost 36-13 to Toti away. They played well against a formidable opponent, despite what the scoreline might suggest. The U20s won 27-26.
