Psst… how smooth is this car?

It's the ideal family car, available at the Volkswagen dealership in Margate.

WE live on the beautiful South Coast so allow me an ocean analogy when describing the Volkswagen Passat 2.0 TDI.

It is so smooth on the road and so comfortable inside that it’s not unlike watching the waves rolling in on a stunning winter morning at one of our top surf spots.

There’s an element of peaceful tranquility and driving the Passat evoked the same sort of emotions and feelings. In fact it was so quiet and smooth that some of my passengers felt I wasn’t going fast enough.

When I pointed out I was actually going exactly the speed limit they seemed surprised. It can zip along at a more than healthy pace, getting from zero to 100km/h in 6.3 seconds. Top speed is a competitive 228km/h.

The interior has a luxurious feel to it.

The one I drove was pure white, as you can see in the photos.

Options fitted include tow-bar, advanced key, park assist, sunroof, ambiance light package, two integrated child seats, Volkswagen R-line styling package, Vienna leather seats and app connect.

The 2.0-litre engine of this six-speed vehicle kicks out 130kW of power at between 3600rpm and 4000rpm.

Peak torque of 350Nm is reached at between 1500 and 3500rpm. Combined fuel consumption is an appealing five litres per 100km. CO2 emissions are 132 g/km.

The fuel tank can handle 66 litres while the luggage capacity is 586 litres.

In fact, it’s the ideal family car with loads and loads of space.

It comes with a warranty of three years or 120 000km, plus a maintenance plan of five years or 100 000km.

Service intervals are 15 000km.

The Passat is available at the dealership in Margate.
