Jarrod is matchplay champ at Sheppie

JARROD van Wyk is the new matchplay champion at Port Shepstone Country Club.
He feels he was ‘lucky’ but the truth is that matchplay is a game that suits his aggressive approach to the game.
He was perhaps fortunate that strokeplay champ Graham Fabricius was bundled out in the first round, but he still had to produce the goods when it mattered.

In the semi-finals he beat his ‘ballie’ Gavin 5/4 and then accounted for Pete Govender in the final, 3/2.
“I started with two birdies and two pars, and then just held him the whole way,” said Jarrod, who has now booked a slot for the Champion of Champions at Kloof in November.
Wednesday’s winners were Gerald Koch and Johann van Niekerk on 72 points, two ahead of Albert dos Santos and Ken Morris.
Last Friday, 76 players took part in the People’s Choice business day.
It was won on 96 points by Hibiscus Electrical, namely Gavin van Wyk, Rob Piers, Howard Crouch and Roy Matkovich.
FUPS were runners-up on 96 points (losing the countout), namely Phil Myburgh, Murray Ross, Dave Mee and Geoff Hudson.
Third place on 92 points went to Darshan Pather, Yeshvan Sampathmany, Naveshan Moodley and Santhos Baskali.
Saturday’s Sanlam Cancer Challenge
A-division places went to Kevin Kandasamy on 36 points, Nick Wattrus on 28 points and Phil Myburgh on 25 points.
Top three in the B division were Paul Geoffery on 41 points, Ian Stewart 39points and Paul Bunge 34 points.
Charles Hulley won the C division on 38 points, pipping Jimmy Parsons who had 37 points and Terry Kotze on 36 points.
The Harcourts golf day, in aid of South Coast Hospice, will be played on Friday, June 16. It’s a public holiday, so book in time. Tee off times from 10am.
In Handicap League action, Port Shepstone beat Margate CC 10-2, to follow on their 6-6 half against Umdoni Park.
