Midweek KBA bowls league… and the mystery of the missing trophies

KINGFISHER BOWLING ASSOCIATION
MIDWEEK League came to an end recently with the semi-finals and finals being played at Margate BC last Monday. Well done to those who went through.
Winners of the men’s league were Peet van Rooyen, Rynier van Tonder, Leon Sander and Steve O’Moore.
Runners-up were Eddie Fann, Brian Rawlins, Howard Frizelle and Kevin Lancaster.
In third were Banners Rest’s Dave Hume, Kotie Snyman, John Keppler and Ally Wier, as well as Rod Phelps, Peter Bennett, Glen Allen and Graeme Russell.
Winning women were Margate BC’s Ellen Cawker, Pam Cole-Cook, Ann Waugh and Ann Gibson.
Runners-up were AMBC’s Leisje de Rosner, Maureen Lancaster, Helen Turk and Val de Kock.
In joint third were Franci Philpott, Sharon Scheinberg, Yvonne Bausek and Georgie McKechnie, plus Port Edward’s Elbe Snyman, Val Smith, Myra Doubell and Sariena Ziervogel.
Will all district clubs and players please search their trophy cabinets for KBA silverware as there are four trophies that have not been returned.
BANNERS REST
BRIAN and Pam Cole-Cook won the Golden Moon Spur and Peter Bennett 2-4-2 mixed pairs last week.
Second place went to Jimmy and Ann McAllister and third to Janet Venter and Ally Weir. 50/50 board went to Pam Cole-Cook.
Well done to the two men’s teams on reaching the KBA mid-week league semi-finals and congratulations to Hazel Delaney on winning this year’s club women’s singles championships.
Glen Allen has recently undergone surgery and members wish him a speedy recovery.
Next sponsored competitions are the GP Security mixed pairs this Friday (2nd) and the Tops Port Edward men’s pairs this Sunday (4th).
HIBBERDENE
MARIE Coetzer, Callie and Estelle Quinn were the winners last Friday afternoon. Second were Albert Munnik, Rentie Stevens and Werner Mody.
Session prize winners were Brian Pirrie, Silvia Pretorius and Napier Verster. Thanks to Blue Waters Pub and Cutting Edge for the sponsorship.

MARGATE BC
WELL done to Ellen Cawker, Pam Cole-Cook, Ann Waugh and Ann Gibson on winning the KBA Midweek League.
Well done also to Franci Philpott, Annette Payne, Sharon Scheinberg and Yvonne Bausek on achieving bronze.
Winners of the Mugg & Bean sponsored Thursday tab competition were Ross Ferguson, Rennie Geyer and Alex Forrest.
Friday’s comp was won by Alan and Ann Gibson, from James Mitchell and Derek McKechnie. Session to Annette Saunders and Dave Morrison.
Gordon Ogilvie won the men’s club singles championships.
Social bowls every Sunday from 9am. Bowls and coaching available for new bowlers, all welcome. Halfway Toyota sponsored men’s 2-4-2 competition this Friday morning (2nd).

MARGATE CC
DORA Vosloo, Georgie McKechnie and Sandi Ferguson won the Hopden’s Manaba KwikSpar open trips.
No other team won both their matches, so the runners-up were decided on a shot count-out, going to Kobie Stander, Gae Gravell and Clive Edmundson.
Session prize went to Dennis Rehbock, Hans van der Walt and Dina van der Walt. Hair Shoppe fours this Friday (2nd).
MUNSTER
HEDLEY Meek, Val Smith and Ken Simm won the Krafty Chameleon mixed trips last Thursday.
Runners-up were Dice Graaff, Rick Harding and Joan Fowler. Second session to Mike Gower, Myra Doubell and Derek Wicks. Board to Dice Graaff.
30 Club draw this Saturday (3rd), bring and braai.
NOMADS
NEXT outing is at Margate Retirement Village this Sunday, June 4 at 8.30am.
All members are welcome to join in on the day. There will be a bring and braai after the game.
PORT EDWARD
WELL done to Elbè Snyman, Val Smith, Myra Doubell and Sariena Ziervogel on winning the bronze in the KBA Midweek League.
The 7th Heaven Mixed pairs winners were Jokkie and Marianne van Buuren, from Elbè Snyman and Derek Wicks.
Session went to Rob Lyle and Pat Brand. Board to Frank Foley.
Scroungers Cup winner was Leoni Booth from Rob Lyle. Plate A to Ray Martin, Plate B to Don Saunders. Sundowner this Friday at 4pm.
PORT SHEPSTONE
SUNNY but somewhat windy weather made for tricky conditions for the club novice champs.
Elena Frizelle just managed to edge out Nikki Coetzer, while in the men’s Alan Booth just pipped Chris Peier to the post.
South Coast Herald fours today (1st) and Harbour View SuperSpar trips this Sunday (4th).
RIVERSIDE
MAUREEN Muller and Shane Nienaber are the new club champions, beating Vi Eltis and Wayne Muller respectively.
Adriana Peens and Attie Ackerman won the Food Lover’s 2-4-2 from Graham and Pauline Dunlop.
Sessions to Graham and Anji Gold, Chummy Smith and Norma Louw.
SOUTHBROOM
WOLF Security open trips were won by Patrick Kirkbright, Wynand Bezuidenhout and Faan Behrens.
Runners-up were Graham Fisher, Brent Addison and Julia Morley.
Sessions went to Hein Bester, Nelia Reed and Bill Reed, and to Vernon Clements, Bev Clements and Richard Derman. 50/50 to Margie Purkiss.
SOUTHPORT
THE Harbour View SuperSpar women’s trips last Thursday was won by Mada Coetzer, B Gradwell and E Quinn.
Runners-up were Adele Reader, Astrid Jackson and Marie Pick. Second session went to Denise Nel, Sandy Shepherd and Ellen Gould.
Good bowling for Hibiscus Week to Bob Moroney, Ben Rossouw, Nellis Hattingh and Lyn Harris.
THE BELL
CONGRATULATIONS to club singles champions Johannie Theron and Steve O’Moore, and to Barbara Fernihough who won the women’s handicap singles, and to Phil Viljoen on winning the men’s novice singles.
The Orca Restaurant mixed trips was won by Hew Hodgson, Renzo van Niekerk and Daphne Hounsell.
June birthday tea will be combined with the July’s on July 19. There will be a braai after bowls this Sunday.
Please note that the usual tabs-in bowls will take place on Wednesday and Saturday afternoons during Hibiscus Week.
TWENI
WIMPY mixed fours was won by Tammy Gibbons, Trevor Main, Jan Scholtz and Pat Bird.
Runners-up were Bez and Bubbles Bezuidenhout, Gloria Gerrard and Estelle Quinn. Session prize went to Derick Celliers, John Payn, Alan Wallace and Susan Delpech.
Peter and Gerda Clark won the Harbour View SuperSpar mixed pairs from runners-up Jan Huygen and Nellie Davies. Geoff and Tina Barbour took the session prize.
VILLAGE
GARY Hess and Dawn Oehley won the Hopden’s Kwikspar mixed 2-4-2 followed by John Sutton and Betty Bolton.
Sessions went to Graham and Pauline Dunlop and to Ina Malan and Manny Piquito on a count-out from Ivan and Hazel Hosken. Dereck Schorn won the the 50/50.
RAC Draw and bring and braai will be this Friday (2nd).
Food Lover’s Market drawn mixed trips will be played this Saturday (3rd) at 1.15pm.
Next competitions are Hibiscus Retirement Villages men’s trips next Tuesday (6th) and Hibiscus Brokers mixed trips next Thursday (8th).
