Cyclists brave the early morning cold to enjoy San Lameer MTB trail

The San Lameer course provided something for everyone.

FORTY cyclists braved the early winter morning and gathered at San Lameer to ride the seven-kilometre mountain bike course last Sunday.

Keen South Coast mountain bikers ranging from 12 to 70 years enjoyed the variation of the course. From bridges, berms and jumps to single track and paved roads, the San Lameer course provided something for everyone.

Organisers Julie and Wayne Tarr told the Herald that the beauty of the course is that it is in such a safe and beautiful environment, except for some grumpy buck – if you dared to disturb them.

“Many of the mountain bike community cycled from their homes to San Lameer and did the course not only once, but in some cases three times and then, after a delicious San Lameer breakfast, they got on their bikes and cycled back home!”

In a competitive mood are (from left) Trevor Ngcungama, Thapelo Motaung, Lindani Shusha and Richmond Soboyise.

Julie pointed out that this is the fourth time San Lameer has opened the course to local cyclists.

“Many of the locals are now preparing for the South Coast Mountain Bike Series, which kicks off on July 2. The Sardine MTB Race at the Port Edward Holiday Resort is the first of the five race series.

Gary Bircher completes the course in record time.
