IT may not have been La Decima – as per Rafa Nadal at Roland Garros – but Umtentweni Tennis Club member Rod Hackland was ‘pretty chuffed’ with his team’s runner-up spot at the recent South African Seniors Tennis Interprovincial.
He took part in the A section in the 65 year age group in the tournament held at Hartenbos in the George region.
KwaZulu-Natal beat Gauteng North, Central Gauteng, Western Province and Free State. They lost to host region Eden (formerly South Western Districts).
His diligent training helped him play a big role in his team’s success although Rod was quick to downplay this.
“I’m just happy to make a contribution to the team,” he said. The format for the tournament is doubles.
Rod was hugely impressed with the general organisation of the event, saying that the accommodation was first class and the friendliness of the hosts simply fantastic.
