It was more like a cricket score for Scottburgh Old Boys RC
The end result was surprisingly one-sided.
THE Raggies (Scottburgh Old Boys Rugby Club) travelled to the heart of Sydenham recently to play the Berea Tech Jaguars. There was a large crowd huddled on the side line in support of the U20 game that was under way on our arrival, all expectant of a sure win against the beach boys from the south.
This was not to be the case as the Raggies were fired up from their previous win against Toti and were ready to prove again that they mean business.

The coach was arguing with their officials regarding two premier division players being on the field, which is highly irregular and, before he had time to finish his argument, we had hatched two tries with both Lucas ‘Goldilocks’ Burger and Jason ‘Panda’ Mackenzie setting the standard for the remainder of the game.
Markus ‘The Tooth Fairy’ converted both tries with ease. It was only when he scored his own try that he became a little shy, missing his own conversion. Goldilocks went on to score two more tries in succession, his golden French plait sailing behind him, the envy of women on the side line.
Panda, not to be outdone, bulldozed his way across the line, egged on by his supporter Nico ‘The Gansta’, who patiently waited for his turn to run on for the Raggies.
The Tooth Fairy, in sparkling form, waved his magic wand converting all three of the tries, including his own magnificent try, when he flew across the line, bringing the score to 47/0.
Xolani ‘X-Man’, just back from a recharge in the Eastern Cape and in great form, showed his strength and crossed the line.
Just before the half time whistle the big boy Brandon ‘Chop’ Wright made a 40m run handing off the opposition, crossing the line with Berea Tech Jaguars fleeing in all directions. It was now the time for Sean ‘The Little General’ to step up and take the kick, which he did successfully. The whistle blew with the scoreboard sitting on 59-0.
The second half saw the Tooth Fairy come off after he had taken a big hit; this was a precautionary measure to protect his working arm.
The second half saw a lot more play with the backline, with the Little General dictating the attack. This led to a lot more devastating runs by the backline and all tries except Goldilocks’s were converted by Sean Jamieson.
Ashley ‘The Flyer’ Smit eventually scored twice; Philip ‘The Bearded Wonder’ du Plooy also scored twice. Goldilocks, again, scored twice and lastly Josh Marsden scored a try, leaving the score board looking more like that of a T20 cricket match.
A huge welcome back to Josh Marsden. A special mention has to go to Nico ‘The Gansta’, who always stirs the team spirit and creates atmosphere, as he ran onto the pitch to flatten the opposition.
