EMOTION ran pretty high at the Harcourts for South Coast Hospice golf day at Port Shepstone Country Club last Friday (Youth Day).
For a start, the golfers dug deep to support the organisation which does so much for cancer patients, and which relies largely on the community’s generosity to maintain operations.

South Coast Hospice was totally blown away with a cheque of R30 000 from main sponsor Harcourts Property Shelly Beach which was presented to Diane van Dyk by Richard Gray, CEO of Harcourts South Africa, and the sponsor Mike Willemse of Harcourts Shelly Beach (Property Perfect).
Another big surprise which caught everyone off guard was when Ashoo Singh of Pro-Vision, brought his entire team of Pro-Vision Golfers to the front and presented Di with a cheque from Pro-Vision to the amount of R10 000.
Ashoo mentioned that the Pro-Vision club was formed 10 years ago with the aim of promoting the game of golf and also assisting the community with fund-raising events.
When they saw the plea for assistance with the sponsorships of this event, their executive got together and agreed to sponsor R5000, and then a member of the club agreed to match their sponsorship, resulting in R10 000 being donated.
This was arranged with Mike Willemse before the event, and was not made known to South Coast Hospice.
The prizes from various sponsors were gratefully accepted by the players.
South Coast Hospice was blessed with a total income on the day of R70 000.
In terms of the golf, the winners on 100 points were Preggie Perumal, Sharms Goberdan, Ashoo Singh and Justin Naidoo.
Runners-up on 98 points were Mot Moleele, Gerhard Labuschagne, Ricky Naidoo and Terry Kotze.
Third spot on 97 points were Elmar Basson, Andrew Curlewis, Tony Golden and Dewalt van der Merwe.
In other Port Shepstone CC news, Saturday’s Illovo Sugar Lions Golf Day was won on 49 points by Abel Yeeranna and Niven Pillay.
Second place was shared on 48 points by Yzelle Greyling and Debi Stewart, as well as Smittie Stieger and Wouter Stieger.
The Wednesday comp was won on 98 points by Stewart Betts, Smittie Stieger, Boetie Thompson and Koos Fouche.
Runners-up on 90 points were Nick Wattrus, Paul Geoffery and putting machine Graham Fabricius.
