THE past week’s fishing has been very good, with some great catches all along our coastline.
Rock and surf has been good, with the guys fishing off ski-boats having a great time of it, with loads of decent game fish coming out, plus some nice bottom fish.
The weather has been excellent and conditions have allowed most of our anglers to fish the majority of the week without any hassles.

It’s been busy from Hibberdene to Port Edward, with catches of kob, garrick, kingfish, rock cod and shad.
The kob have been coming out in the evenings on chokka baits and live bait where as the kingies and garrick have been coming out only on live bait in the mornings and late afternoons.
The live baits of choice are karanteen, blacktail, mullet and shad. Garrick have also been coming out on drop shot and plugs.
The odd snoek has also been showing on plug while targeting the garrick in the area.
There have been a few amberjack showings, leading some of our anglers to start jigging again. Reports of geelbek are around and couple have been caught.

In terms of ‘Sardine Run 2017’, the silver fish popped in for a bit, mostly on the upper South Coast in the Scottburgh area.
It was a little like a visit for a single guy from a smokin’ hot ex-girlfriend, but one who dumped him to date a gangster from China.
He was super-excited she popped in, even if it was something of a surprise and unannounced. She gave him a hug and a kiss, he breathed in her perfume. Hope lingered.
But while the water in the kettle was still warm, she was gone again; time for a cup of coffee, but only one. And he was left wondering if he would ever see her again?
On a more serious note, it seems that’s the end of the sardines for this year. There’s been a lot of interest as seeing them has been about as often as the Springboks beat the All Blacks.
Still, even though it was a short visit, at least there was one.
