Herald Fishing: Shad on the run again … but please stick to the limits
Some big weather is expected in the next few days.
WITH all the sardine activity over the past few weeks the shad have eaten well and some decent-sized ones have been caught along the coast.
While this is good news, a concern is that some fishermen are just flat out abusing the daily limit of four.

They were ‘wild’ at Stiebel Rocks in Umzumbe, where a couple of kingies and garrick were also caught (and released).
Further south, in Port Shepstone, anglers landed kob, grunter and shad at Sandpit and at The Block.
There have been reports of plentiful shad and bronze bream on the bite from Oslo Beach to Margate.
Pink prawn, cracker shrimps and crayfish are the best bait options for bronze bream. A licence is required to use crackers or crayfish bait.
On that note there are reports of anglers catching some decent-sized crayfish.
Anglers had some great catches of bronze bream, shad and stone bream in the Palm Beach area.
Down south, at Splash Rock in Port Edward, there was some mighty big surf, with some early morning shad and the odd garrick coming out.
Reports are that a couple grey sharks and rays have been landed at various points.
The weather is not looking good for today (17th) and tomorrow, with some rough sea and strong winds expected.
Hard-core anglers are cautioned to be careful on the rocks.
Fishing will surely start picking up from Saturday again for the freshwater as well as the saltwater fishermen.
