Paul Russell powers to Cup win

There were very narrow margins of victory at competitions played during the week.

PAUL Russell produced one of his better rounds to win last Thursday’s Carreira/Curlewis Cup at Margate Country Club.

His score of 41 points saw him edge in ahead of Louw van Niekerk on 40 points.

Patrick Mavundla was third on 39 points. Nearest the pins were Patrick Mavundla (4th) and Neil Townsend (16th).

Sandi Johnston, Hilary Hendry and Lexley Lewis won the women’s competition last Tuesday.

They scored 73 points to pip Joan Minnaar, Grace Fourie and Connie McArthur who had 72 points.

The Wobblers’ game last Wednesday was won on 85 points by Derek Egerton, Rob Brien and Carl Zurfluh.

Next on 80 points were the Weanie clan, namely Bob, Trevor and Russell, on 80 points. Third place went to Nico van Vuuren, Hanz Beilhartz and Hans Dallinger on 75 points.

The Arthur Tomlinson Floater went to Konnie Konrad, Arthur Harrison and Peter Hunter on 61 points.

Saturday’s betterball Stableford was won by Rob Weyer and Mike Lee on 47 points, with Ralph Burls and Thys Bothma next on 46 points.

Neil Townsend and Robin Shuttleworth were third on 44 points. Nearest the pins were Paul Valentine (2nd) and Piet van Rensburg (11th).

In the women’s alliance, the winners were Rene Paton, Lesley Erasmus and Beryl Williamson on 80 points.

Second were Hannetjie Pretorius, Margaret Taylor and Shannon Gottlieb, on 79 points.
