Ugu drives and supports Learn to Swim

The coaching fulfils a vital role in society.

FIVE new swimming coaches have qualified with Learn to Swim, a drive by the Department of Sports and Recreation and Swim South Africa to teach as many people as possible to swim, and thus prevent any drownings.

This project has had the support of the Ugu District Municipality.

The newly qualified and registered coaches (with Learn to Swim) on the South Coast are Lynda Kuhn and Elaine Moore (both Creston College), Nicky Lilje (independent), Jaco Erasmus (Suid Natal High) and Gerhard Labuschagne (MSC Aquazone).

The primary responsibility of a Learn to Swim Coach is to teach children water safety, swimming skills and basic strokes.

Coaches are also trained to ensure that they provide competent, safe instruction using recognized lead-up skills.
