‘Vorsprung durch Technik’ for Cup winners
The two friends hadn't planned on playing together, but it worked out well in the end.
IT has now been 25 years since the Audi Quattro Cup was launched in South Africa and its popularity remains strong.
There are six regional qualifying events in South Africa and last Saturday saw one of them take place at Southbroom Golf Club. It also happened to be the final one for the year.

The winners were Craig McDonald and his last-minute partner André de Klerk, who had 45 points in the greensomes format. Both are members at Southbroom.
“My wife was going to play but opted out at the last moment as she did not want to let me down,” said Craig.
The national final will take place at Fancourt late next month with the winners there qualifying for a place in the world final in Los Cabos, Mexico from December 1 to 5.
There were 800 qualifying events around the world, so it’s a massive tournament.
Aside from the greensomes format (both drive, best drive chosen, then alternate shots played) there was also live scoring on the course, giving the golfers an idea of where they stood in relation to the field.
Johan Kinsey-Ahlers of Audi Centre Margate, thanked the golfers and club for their support.
He also thanked Audi Financial Services for its continued support of the event.
Runners-up were Mike Anthony and Richard Mills on 43 points, followed by Meyer du Toit and Reinard Schuhknecht on 42 points.
Art Germs and Colin Steyn had 41 points, counting out Gavin Sole and Gary Purtell.
Nearest the pins were won by Craig Smythe (4th) and Ivan Curlewis (14th). Gavin Sole won longest drive on the 17th.
In other club news, Lizzie Currie won the Cora Hicks trophy last Wednesday on nett 72.
One off the pace was Allyson Thomas, followed by Mari Fielden on nett 75.
The men’s medal was won on nett 68 by Roger Hissey, followed by Gavin Sole on nett 68 and Piet Joubert on nett 72.
Paul Cole won the Stableford on 39 points, with Art Germs next on 34 points and Geoff Skelton on 33 points.
Friday’s open day was rained out.
