Jana Potgieter brings blonde ambition to family dealership Thompson Motors
It's exciting times for the dealership, which has premises in Port Shepstone and Shelly Beach.
There’s a new sales manager at the Thompson Motors dealership on the South Coast in Jana Potgieter.
But don’t be fooled for one minute by her blonde hair, bright smile and infectious laugh.
Beneath her bubbly personality is a woman who knows her stuff, is fiercely determined, and doesn’t back down for much.
She has, after all, in her younger days stood in the goals for the South African Country Districts hockey team.
To have a small, hard missile launched at you on purpose usually has most ducking for cover – but not Jana.
It’s with this gutsy approach to life that she heads up an already strong sales team at Thompson Motors, which includes Barry Venter, Jereld Latchmigadu, Eddie Davey and Tanya Engelbrecht (F&I).
There is, however, a compassionate side too, as evidenced by the fact that one of her pets is a ‘rescue dog’, and you can be sure you’ll be listened to and taken seriously when dealing with her and the sales team.
She knows she has some big shoes to fill, following the retirement of Yvonne Lawlor and recent relocation to Durban of Patrick Arthur.
Jana had no hesitation accepting the offer from dealer principal Clive Thompson and is excited to join the family team.
“I’ve been here just over a week now, it’s going well and I’m looking forward to the new opportunities that lie ahead,” she said.
Jana has been on the coast since 1996, having previously lived in Welkom. She’s married to Anton and they have a son Logan, aged 11.
Although she hasn’t been in the motoring industry that long compared to some, she has progressed fairly rapidly.
She started out as a stock controller at Union Motors in 2010 and within a few years was promoted to evaluator.
Thompson Motors is the local dealership for Nissan, Datsun, Renault and UD Trucks.

While her hockey days have been relegated to the ‘Nostalgia File’ she claims to have a new hobby.
“I’d like to say running,” she laughed, “but I know I’m going to be told ‘but we haven’t seen you on the road in years’!”
There’s probably a better chance you’ll see her on the road soon, maybe not jogging, but rather behind the wheel of a Nissan, Renault or Datsun.
