Tennis, braai fires and music at Tweni tennis club

There was quite a buzz at the club last Saturday.

A GREAT afternoon of tennis was the order of the day when Umtentweni Tennis Club held its Round Robin recently.

Sectional winners were Raj Naganna, Trish Wood, Helgard du Preez and Chantelle Donald.

In an exciting play-off, Raj and Trish emerged the winners.

Thanks go to Raj for organising the prizes and to Trish who spoilt everyone with really flavoursome eats for tea. Cathy Barker brought delicious snack-bites later in the afternoon.

Thanks to Grant Wood for getting the fire going for the braai and to all who brought salads and breads to accompany the braai-meat.

True to form, Chloe Dutton provided the music, which was much appreciated by all.

Members hope that George van der Merwe has now had enough water to ‘ruk hom reg’!

Raj Naganna prepares to hit a crisp forehand.

Members are also proud of Raj’s achievements in the recent National Veterans’ Tournament in Bloemfontein where he came fifth in the singles and third in the mixed and men’s doubles.

The club welcomes new members Morgan Reddy and Deena Naidoo and wishes them many enjoyable hours on the courts.

It is pleasing to hear that Lynne Rorich is now out of the woods health-wise and members look forward to having her back on the courts as soon as she has regained her strength.

The courts will be in use for the junior tournament over the weekend so there will be no social tennis on Saturday afternoon.

Do come along and see what the new generation of players has to offer.
