Chatsworth United silenced by Southerns’ spinner Gershion Lawrence

In a season of one-sided games this was probably the most so.

A VISIT to Penguin Street Ground for the Southern KwaZulu-Natal cricketers proved to be a short, but fruitful one.

Chatsworth won the toss and opted to bat, not realising that Gershion Lawrence had surgically transplanted Muttiah Muralitharan’s right arm onto his body for the day.

He took six for 14 in nine unplayable overs, making his arguably more esteemed spinning partner Raja Kazi’s 2-22 seem somewhat ordinary on the day. Not that he would mind of course.

Chatsworth were bundled out for 67 in 25.5 overs.

Gareth Bishop took 1-5 in five balls and there was a run out.

In reply, Matt Redinger continued his form from last week, smashing a quick 47 not out to end the game quickly.

Uzair Desai was out for two and Sachin Kalkapersad for a duck. Gareth Bishop was six not out when Southerns passed the score in the 13th over.
