Herald Fishing: Coastal fishing slow … but it’s time to head to Paddock
It's a great time to be a fisherman.
With the weather being up and down over the past week the fishing has been slow.
Leading up to the weekend, with no distinct patterns in the wind and rain predicted, it seems to be the perfect time to take a step back from the fishing and get your tackle and traces back up to scratch.
The offshore fishing has been good over the last week with tuna and couta making up the majority of the catches.

There has been some big bronze bream caught over the last week.
The lower South Coast has also produced some white mussel crackers over the last week. A very effective bait for these fish is crab.
Remember that you require a licence to collect anything from the sea or beach so make sure you have the appropriate paperwork before you go about using any natural bait.
If you are uncertain about what licence you need, pop in to your closest post office and they will advise you accordingly.
Lots of crayfish are being caught and anglers are reminded to buy crayfish licences.
It’s time for the hugely popular Paddock Fishing Compo this weekend, from Friday, March 23 to Sunday, March 25.
There’s a big focus on family, and so no alcohol is allowed at the Paddock Farmers’ Club, although there will be a bar facility available.
No pets allowed. It’s an event the whole family can enjoy.
There are loads of prizes up for grabs as well as numerous lucky draws.
Come and join us for one of the largest family fun weekends on the lower South Coast.
There will be more than 30 dams, all fully stocked, to fish in.
Prizes to the tune of R150 000 need to be won, plus many lucky draws, including a main cash draw of R4000 and two R1000 cash draws.
Tickets cost R80 and each ticket is an entry for the lucky draws, so the more tickets you have the more chances you have of winning some cash.
Arm bands to gain entrance into the club grounds and dams are R20 pp for over 18 years old and R10 for under 18s.
Camping is R300 for the weekend per tent or caravan.
The briefing is this Friday (23rd) at 7pm at the Paddock Farmers’ Club.
