Fly angler John New honoured

It's been a good year for the club... and they're hoping for a better one coming up.

THE South Coast Fly Anglers held their annual prize-giving at the home of Stephen and Olga Brand in Palm Beach recently.

The function was attended by about 30 members of the club, their spouses and families.

Prizes were awarded to the following people for their various accomplishments during 2017.

Honorary membership: Awarded to John New, chairman for the last seven years.

Most meritorious fish: Sakkie McKay for a 2.5kg small mouth yellow fish and a 2.4 kg brown trout.

Second most meritorious fish: Ian Logie for a 2.4kg rainbow trout.

Third most meritorious fish: Dean Angove for a 2.0 kg garrick.

Most prolific angler: John New with 84 fish caught and registered.

Most improved angler: David Schwartz with 27 fish caught, comprising five species.

Freshwater fly tyer of the year: Dean Angove with 22 points

Saltwater fly tyer of the year: Arthur Cary with 29 points.

Chris van Wyk Chairman’s award: Neil Scott for a really stout effort in organising the highly successful trip to the Richtersveld.

Merit certificates: Ken Schwartz for a 1.3 kg black tip king fish and a 14cm wave garrick.

Most species caught: John New, 10.
