Mtshaka and Zithumane roar at Lions Day
The competition was tough and fiercely fought for first place.
THE keenly-awaited Ramsgate Lions’ Betterball Charity Golf Day at the Margate Country Club last Saturday was well supported.
It was won by won by Ronnie Mtshaka and Koko Zithumane on 48 points.
Runners-up were Eddie Davies and Sydney Shingange on 44 points, followed by Mike Lee and Rob Weyer on 43 points.
On 42 points were Pierre Malherbe and Peter Hunter, Hannetjie Pretorius and Margaret Taylor, as well as Thys Bothma and Allan Halvorsen.
Nearest the pins were Johan Erasmus (7th), Eddie Davies (4th), Mike Lee (8th), Shannon Gottlieb (11th) and Mike Lee (16th).
Ramsgate Lions’ fund-raising director, Johann Bentley, told the Herald that the club was delighted with the overwhelming response and support received from local businesses for this annual fund-raiser.
“The day was perfect from sun-up to sunset, with some excellent golfing in between. I really want to thank all golfers, sponsors and fellow Lions who made this day a success!”
The women’s competition at Margate Country Club last Tuesday was rained off.

The next day, the Wednesday Wobblers conpetition was won by André Henn, André Henn junior and Dave Parsons on 81 points.
Runners-up were Rob Brien, Louie Gous and Dave Boyd on 80 points.
Arthur Tomlinson Floater went to Peter Hunter, Dolf Willemse and Alan Robinson on 66 points.
Last Thursday’s competition was won on 37 points by Johan Stoltz on 37 points, on a countout from Fanie Terblanche.
Nearest the pins were Pierre Malherbe (4th) and Robin Shuttleworth (11th).
Last Friday’s business day was won on 90 points by Mike Lee, Rob Weyer, Carlos Pereira and Graeme Massam on 90 points.
Runners-up were Ulric Gous, Johan Wentzel, Neil Townsend and Robin Shuttleworth on 89 points.
In third spot were Lexley Lewis, Jane Davies, Barbara Jackson and ‘ghost’ on 87 points.
Nearest the pins were sponsored by ‘Out of Wood’ and won by Ulric Gous (4th) and Derek Egerton (11th).
