Sideways action at the wild side … and kind hearts for a young girl
Visitors were entranced with a grand motoring spectacle.
Even the rainy weather could not deter the hundreds of petrol heads at the mind-blowing drifting at the Wild Coast Sun Hotel and Casino Resort’s rooftop car park last week Saturday.
Super cars, classic to modern, food, smoke, screeching tyres and good music formed part of the sights and sounds at the fifth edition of the Drift Expo. This one-of-a-kind motoring festival was in aid of Gabriella Dry of Port Edward, who suffers from spastic quadriplegic cerebral palsy and cannot talk, walk or crawl.
Thirty-five of the country’s top drifters from KwaZulu-Natal and Eastern Cape, including the the Le Riche brothers, Brent and Bruce, displayed their talents and their rubber-burning action from very early in the morning.
Visitors watched the drifters tear up the tar with a high-speed tandem drift show. While the track boiled, the parking area was alight with modified cars and various stalls. Crowd favourite from last year’s event, MC Vic Pardell, (aka ‘Loudest White in Africa’) made a return to the resort to ensure that he kept the crowds well entertained throughout the day once again.

Spectators were allowed to get up close and personal with the drivers and their cars. The Wild Coast Sun was proud to have worked in partnership with Puren Plant Hire once again to bring this action-packed event to fruition. The event raised R55 000, which will go to Gabriella for her much-needed stem cell treatment in India.
