GRAHAM Fabricius won the Port Shepstone Country Club men’s strokeplay championships, sponsored by Dip Spar, last weekend for the second year in a row.
But it wasn’t quite as easy as the eight-shot winning margin may make it look.
After round one, where he shot 74, he only had a one shot lead over Ganes Munsami, currently off a nine handicap.
Ganes is ‘sneaky good’ and can never be discounted… he’s caused some big upsets in the past.
“I had a restless night knowing Ganes was close. He has an unbelievable short game. I knew I was playing solid golf but club champs has a different kind of pressure,” said Graham.
Jarrod van Wyk was at wedding in Cape Town so not in the mix.
Graham showed his class on Sunday with a 71 to ease to the win, leaving Ganes and Greg Hornby to play off for the A division honours.
James Coull won the B division and Sashen Govender the C division. Veterans’ winner was Dirk Brand.
In the women’s section, Kim Strauss won for the second year in a row and third overall.
She scored a pair of 81s, not her best ever, but good enough for a very, very comfortable win.
“I had an interesting second round with ducks and freshies but it was great fun,” she laughed.
She congratulated the other winners and thanked the women’s section in particular, as well as the sponsor South Coast Herald.

Silver division champion was junior golfer Simoné Ferreira.
Bronze and copper division honours went to Beryl Olden and Vicky Nott respectively.
The business day last Friday was won by the four Gs, namely Gavin Sole, Graham Sole, Gary Purtell and Gareth Olivant on 94 points.
Runners-up were Tony Fairbairn, John Beekman, Jesse Verster and Shaun Nathanson on 93 points.
The previous Wednesday’s competition was won on 38 points by Roly Shaw, three ahead of Smittie Stieger.
