Another wet race expected as Modifieds roll in
The only category not participating on Saturday will be the Historics who are all saving their efforts for the following weekend when the National Historic Tour makes its way to Dezzi Raceway.
THE rain man appears to have an eye firmly fixed on Dezzi Raceway, Oslo Beach with heavy showers predicted for Round Six of the KZN Road Racing Championships on August 4.
The last round was run in the wet and produced plenty of hairy moments with competitors battling to find grip on the slick surface – some having bigger moments than others, necessitating serious rebuilding of their racing machinery.

Bryce Hills, who had a huge crash, said he was racing time to get his Yamaha 1000 rebuilt in time for Saturday – and certainly will not relish a repeat outing in the wet.
However, the conditions do not do much to deter the competitive spirit and the 300 Class motorcycles look set to produce some seriously competitive racing with wild card entries from national.
KTM Durban has given a ride to Jesse Boshoff from Johannesburg; local fast man, Malcolm Rudman will be aboard the Band-It sponsored Yamaha R3.
Also in the mix will be the current class leader Nicolai Conci against his competitive ‘baby brother’ Jesse Conci on the D&D Industrial sponsored Kawasaki 300s.
In the 300 Class Nicolai Conci has the edge in terms of championship points over his brother but, if racing in the rain is the great leveller, this could change – especially with Rudman in the mix, ready to take points of his own from the encounter.
Hills leads the points table in the 1000 Class from Erich Tonsing (BMW 1000) and Stanley Ndlela (BMW 1000) but, there are still enough points on offer in the remaining rounds this season for all of this to change dramatically.
The Modified car category always provides scintillating action with hugely competitive racing through the four classes that make up the large field – the Super Modifieds again expected to be a hotly contested affair between the likes of Elton Fuchs (VW Golf), Paul Tarboton (VW Golf) and Ollie Broome (Mercedes 2.3).
Ronald van Rensburg (VW Golf) seems to have Class A of the Modifieds fairly tightly wrapped up, nearly 50 points up on second placed Shiren Rajpaul (VW Golf) while Class B is currently led by Pierre-Richard Potgieter (VW Golf) with Dane Thompson (VW Golf) and Richard Loynes (VW Golf) snapping at his heels.
Tim Kinsey (VW Golf) leads Class C from Barry Liggins (BMW Dart) and Dave Burton (VW Golf) but adverse conditions could change this in an instant.
As always the Super GT Class is expected to provide plenty of high-speed action as the Porsches of Willie de Beer, Lawrence Smith and Duncan dos Reis try for supremacy on the day – Dos Reis certainly one who will be hoping Pirelli is able to supply suitable tyres for wet racing.
