WATCH: Dolphins and Knights cricketers bowl (and bat) South Coast fans over

The weather played the game too, and it was a stunning spring afternoon out for locals who helped created a superb atmosphere.

The two-day cricket festival at Port Shepstone Country Club which featured the Hollywoodbets Dolphins and VKB Knights proved to be a resounding success.

So much so that there’s talk of something even bigger next year, but that’s a discussion for later.

On Tuesday the Dolphins held sway in the 50 over game, winning comfortably.

Yesterday (Wednesday) it was the turn of the Knights to dominate, winning the match by 20 runs.

The pitch held up pretty well, although it was perhaps on the slower side.

Fans were delighted to see some of their heroes up close. Schoolchildren queued for autographs and the players obliged.

Andile Phehlukwayo was the player everyone came to see. He grew up on the South Coast and attended Margate Primary before going to Glenwood High.

Kids swarmed around him and he duly obliged.

He was his usual consistent self with the ball, with his variations and change of pace something that sets him apart and why he is such an important ‘death bowler’ for the Proteas.

Unfortunately he didn’t last long with the bat, holing out near Cow Shed Corner as he looked to up the tempo of the run chase.

Khaya Zondo (Dolphins captain) was there on the day, having recently been on South Africa A duty. Along with the likes of Sarel Erwee, also there, they were ordered to rest as there is a lot of cricket coming up.

Other top players included fast bowler Duanne Olivier and hard-hitting batsman/keeper Morné van Wyk.

Today (Thursday) the players will be involved in a celebrity golf day at the country club.
