The Port Shepstone High pupil competed in the youth elite brown/blackbelt division (16 years old).

Currently a 1st Dan (shodan) blackbelt, she has followed in her mother Monya’s rather illustrious footsteps… not only is she her role model, but she’s also her trainer and sensei!

“I am very proud of Micaela, in fact the whole dojo is. She’s been doing karate since she was five years old. It shows that hard work and perseverance pay off. The dojo in general is producing great results,” she said.

Monya, who runs SA JKA dojos in Ramsgate and Port Edward, thanked CemAir for sponsoring the flight tickets as well as the local community for its support.
