This week should be a better week with the settling of the sea. Summer is almost upon us and the species that favour the warmer water are starting to make a showing.
Bronze bream, sandies and honeycombs are starting to get everyone excited.
Scratching has been the order of the day with the prevailing conditions.
This involves fishing among the rocks mainly with prawn and chokka baits.
Bronze bream have been feeding decidedly well and have attacked all baits with vigour.
For targeting these fish, remember to make traces with and without floats to see what mood the fish are in on the day. A size 1/0 hook of choice with a pink or red prawn.
If you can get your hands on some cracker shrimp, you are in with the best chance for a personal best fish.
Reports are in of anglers landing some decent galjoen (South Africa’s national fish).
The closed season, when you are not allowed to fish or target the galjoen, in South Africa is from October 15 to February 28 next year.
Minimum size is 35cm and there is a bag limit of two galjoen per day.
The garrick have finally decided to play the spinning game and have left the live baits and attacked the plugs and lures.
There have also been plenty of shad around but they continue to be a little on the small side.
The spot to be is Splash Rock in Port Edward. Anglers have hooked on some decent fish and well done to those anglers releasing their fish.
Tight lines and screaming reels.
