INDOOR cricket may not be ‘huge’ in terms of sports on the South Coast but the region does boast some pretty decent players and especially those over 30 years old.

Ten of them played for the KwaZulu-Natal South team that earned a bronze medal at the fairly recent South African Indoor IPT held at Richards Bay in Zululand.
Three of them were subsequently picked for the SA Indoor Over 30 team for a coastal tour against some international teams which will take place in February next year, namely Ashley Lombard, Theo Nicholls and Craig Roux. Jhean Ludick is a non-travelling reserve.
Lombard has also been chosen for an Over 35 national squad, combining indoor and action cricket, from which a final SA Over 35 squad will be chosen for the World Cup next year, which will be held in Johannesburg.
The team that won the bronze in Richards Bay comprised Lombard, Roux, Nicholls, Jacques Cilliers, Ludick, Barry Carlsson, Dale Potgieter, George Nagel and Rowan Schoeman.
Lombard, who has already played a World Cup, was particularly pleased for Roux and Nicholls.
“Very happy to see them make the national side,” he said.
Cilliers got injured midway through the tournament, which saw Sunshine Tour golfer Andrew Curlewis pitch up to take his place.
In all, the team played 12 games. Western Province ended up winning the trophy.
The team thanked main sponsors Niccil Plumbing and Margate Pro Shop.
