Stuart has Dakar in his sights
There's every chance a South Coast rider will be competing in the Dakar next January.
Nut farmer Stuart Gregory of Port Edward is trying to create some South Coast enduro riding history by becoming the first locally based rider to take part in the Dakar.
This big event will take place in Peru in January next year. With the Rand taking a bit of a beating he would welcome any funds to help him get there as it’s not a cheap exercise.

He aims to compete in the Malle Moto class, which means it’s totally unassisted – no crew, nothing.
As part of the build-up to that, Stuart competed in the recent Tankwa Rally in the Cape where he placed third in the rally class – the race was won by Kenny Gilbert – covering a distance of about 1400km.
That’s not bad considering he was riding a fully specced bike which was a little bit bigger than what the others were riding.
“It was hard work riding the big bike in tight conditions. Well done to Clive Crouse and his team for putting on a great event. Thanks also to Donovan van de Langenberg for helping myself and Kenny get to the race, and for the Malle Moto tips,” he said.
The route in Peru will be pretty much 100 percent sand, so he plans to travel to Namibia at least twice before then to practise in the dunes.
He had some people to thank, including Time Freight for helping him get his bike to Cape Town and Mitchell Anderson of cross-fit fame for helping him with his fitness.
