Master status for Southbroom golfer Derek
Club members and fellow professionals are very pleased for the hard-working golfer.
Derek James, the club professional at Southbroom Golf Club, and winner of a numerous tournaments and awards, now has another one.
He has achieved the status of Master Professional, an honour bestowed on him by the Professional Golfers Association of South Africa at a function in Johannesburg recently.

It’s to honour PGA members who have maintained the highest degree of excellence in the participation, promotion, growth and development of the game and also who continue to make a significant effort to improve themselves, their skills and education as golf professionals.
The previous Wednesday’s competition was won by Janet Humphrey and Di Morris (front nine) and Jo Ledden and Jill Webster (back nine).
The men’s betterball Stableford saw Matthew brothers Bruce and Derrik take first place on 45 points.
Tied for second on 44 points were Peter Leeming and Colin McKay, as well as Jim Dimambro and Paul Lawson.
Last Friday business day, sponsored by Audi Centre Margate, was won on 92 points by Gary Purtell, Malcolm Greenland, Rory O’Donnell and Colin Mckay.
Next, on 91 points, were Eugene Orsmand, Kevin Murray, Nic van Deventer and Fellow Albertyn.
Third spot went to Di Morris, Augi D’Ewes, Jenny Westray and Rene Matthew on 89 points, followed by Norman Farrell, Don Osbourn, John Fox and John Neaves on 85 points.
Last Saturday’s alliance was won on 84 points by Lorraine Cook, Lee Mutch, Jill Webster and Michelle Davies, by one from Lorianne Williams, Augi D’Ewes, Jenny Westray and Di Morris.
The men’s alliance was won on 85 points by Allan Woods, Terry Sheppard, Doug Butcher and Tim D’Ewes.
They counted out Bob Thomas, Don Osbourn, John Neaves and Norman Farrell, as well as George Wright, Dave Page, Gordon Moody and a ‘ghost’, and also Derrik Matthew, Tim Hitchins, Geoff Skelton and Jim Cook.
