Fann fills Good Ship Sheppie’s sails

Eddie Fann has won more than 30 singles titles at district and national level, which could be some kind of a record.

Things have been going pretty well for the bowls section at Port Shepstone Country Club of late.

The KBA Masters Singles tournament is among the most prestigious in the district.

There is a strict qualifying procedure and thus it’s quite an honour to be invited to play. It’s also usually limited to 12 men and 12 women.

Port Shepstone CC had four men bowlers who received an invitation, namely Eddie Fann, Roy Anderson, Murray Ross and Lynden Wright.

Eddie Fann won the tournament, which was no great surprise to anyone who follows bowls.

Roy was the runner-up, while Murray and Lynden finished in the top half of the field.

It’s been a superb year for Eddie, even by his high standards.

He also won the KBA Open Singles and KBA Champion of Champions tournaments this year.

Having wrapped up the recent Masters Singles title, it seems he may have set another record by winning all three in the same year.

On receiving his trophy, Eddie announced his retirement from ‘singles’ bowls.

How long this lasts remains to be seen, but it could come as a relief to his opponents!

Eddie has won more than 30 singles titles at district and national level, which could be some kind of a record.

He’s also won the SA National Masters Seniors title, which is the most coveted bowls title in South Africa, in 2008, 2009, 2011 and 2016.

Eddie has also won silver and bronze over the years and has been on the podium nine times in the 10 years he has competed in this tournament.

No other bowler in the history of SA Seniors has achieved so much success.
