Silver medals for junior fly anglers

The boys fished two dam sessions off boats at Lakenvlei, two river sessions on the Smallblaar and one bank angling session at La Freme near Franchoek.

TWO teams of five anglers travelled from Durban to Cape Town to take part in the South African Fly Fishing Association 2018 Junior Interprovincials last week.

The competition was held in the Western Cape and was hosted by Boland Fly Fishing Association at Du Toit Kloof Lodge.

Teams from all over South Africa took part, totalling 12 altogether.

In amongst all these anglers were three local lads in a team of five representing KwaZulu-Natal, namely Liam van der Merwe and Justin Ashington from Port Shepstone High and Pieter Stroebel from Creston College.

The boys fished two dam sessions off boats at Lakenvlei, two river sessions on the Smallblaar and one bank angling session at La Freme near Franchoek.

Western Province took the Gold with KZN bagging the silver. Boland claimed third place.

Liam placed second overall with Justin not far behind in fourth place. Both boys are members of the South Coast Fly Anglers Club.

Pieter was awarded his SASACC colours for his recent participation in a competition in the Czech Republic.

Top angler was Stefan von der Heyden (Western Province) and Thembi Ngxongo (KwaZulu-Natal B).
