Rugby boys gain ‘Respect’ in Ireland
The Reitz Rugby Week and the ITEC team provide opportunities for the boys to further their rugby careers.
SOUTHERN KwaZulu-Natal had five representatives in the ITEC South African Rural Schools Invitational team that toured Ireland recently.
These comprised Dillon Jonker (Southcity), Respect Luthuli (Southcity), Blade Kiss (Suid Natal), Sbulele Qasha (Kokstad) and Clive Pieterse (forwards coach, Southcity).
The team was selected at the Reitz Rugby Week and is representative of players from various provinces.
In Ireland, they played three games.
First up was the Leinster U19 side in Dublin and the SA team won 48-38, with Respect Luthuli scoring two tries.
The second game was against Crescent College in Limerick, which was lost 50-24, with Dillon Jonker scoring a try.
The third game was against Dolphins Rugby Club U19 team in Cork, which the SA team won 24-12 with Respect again scoring.
He was the team’s top try scorer with three tries in three games.
The SKZN boys did the region proud, playing some outstanding rugby.
They had great fun, making new friends on the rugby field, and seeing different parts of Ireland.
