Smooth start for Southerns

The regional cricket team has made a promising start to the season.

Southern KZN beat Umzinto at Siripat ground last Sunday by 12 runs in the Promotion A T20 league.

Southerns batted first and made 145-5 in 20 overs, with Matt Redinger making 95, before being run out.

Sachin Kalkapersad made 30. Best of the Southerns bowlers was Sajid Tai, with 2-14 in four overs.

The week before they beat Topham by 21 runs in a match played over five overs aside at Port Shepstone CC.

Southerns made 70-1 and Topham 49-2.

In an earlier game on the same day eased to a comfortable win over Umkomaas. The visitors made 103-7 in 20 overs, with Sajid Tai taking 3-10 in four overs.

In reply, Southerns reached the total in the 14th over, with three wickets down. Redinger made 30, Morné Bishop 24* and Alveiro Natashen 22*
