Metrorail fun for Ugu runners

UAC will now start preparing for its first official race, scheduled for January 13 next year.

UGU Athletics Club members took part in the Goss & Balfe Sapphire Coast Marathon recently.

In total 34 UAC members travelled to the north coast, with 18 running the 21.1km event and 16 the 42.2km race.

One of the highlights was boarding the Metrorail to the start, especially for those in the 42km race, and then running back to the finish, saving some petrol money in the process!

The race started at 6.30am and even by then it was hot, with runners facing unfavourable conditions all day.

UAC runners did well enough, with all those who started managing to finish.

The route was very tough especially the last hilly 3 km where most runners were reduced to a walk.
