Pete beats Sapphire Coast heat

It was an extremely hot day but all the Striders who entered managed to finish before the six hour cutoff, with 13 securing their Comrades qualifier, which has been reduced to 04:50.

A total of 27 members took part in the Goss & Balfe Sapphire Coast Marathon recently.

In the 21.1km half-marathon new member Brino Chidzungu, more commonly known as Peter or Pete, came up with an outstanding result.

He was second overall, a mere 20 seconds behind the winner, and first in his age category. The fact that this was his very first race makes this even more remarkable!

In other events, five Striders and four friends and family took part in the Tinman Challenge at Suncoast Casino last Sunday.

This was a 1km swim in the sea, 32km cycle and a 10km run. It was very hot and humid in Durban and the competitors felt it.

Results: Toni Mundi 02:12, Elma Kruger 02:24, Lou Schoeman 02:30, Mark Smith 02:45, Hector Macleod 02:59, Mignon Klusener 02:59, Niels Klusener 02:59, Bernardt Keudel-Schaffer 02:59.

Two Striders took part in the 15km Kenneth Stainbank trail run, which forms part of the KZN trail running coastal series.

David Morrison-Young and Lindelani Itabor both clocked times of just over two hours.
