Tennis Eagles take flight in Uvongo

The KZN Senior’s Tennis Tournament has become a highlight on the Uvongo Tennis Club calendar, and an incredibly high standard of tennis is always evident throughout the tournament.
Some 56 players took part from Gauteng, Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal.

In addition to the main sponsors Hibiscus Retirement Village and Ugu South Coast Tourism local businesses donated significant prizes for such a worthy event.
The A section winners were the Eagles, namely Mark Hannaway, Jill Crewe, Gules Salottolo, Tania van Doorn, Wayne Manning (captain), Nthi Molapo, Ruthven Pullin and Trevor Small.
Winners of the B section were David Vincent, Simone Hattingh, Pippa Hopkins, Neil Perry, Ina Cochrane and Fan-fan Gaba.
The club president Howard Osborne presented the prizes.
The tournament was divided into two sections, A and B, with eight players in the A section and six in the B section.
The A section comprised the Buzzards, Eagles, Hadedas and Vultures, with the B section comprising the Thick Knees, Penguins, Warblers and Larks.
As it was a team event, each game of each match was critical as points were awarded for every game won.
The tournament was played at Uvongo and Douglas Mitchell courts to ensure that the event finished on time on Sunday afternoon.
The weather played its part, particularly on Saturday as the day’s events had to be completed prior to the Springbok vs English rugby match.

On Saturday night the mood was rather sombre after the disappointing rugby result.
It soon picked up once the music, by local band Legends, started playing.
The late night revelers could easily be identified the following morning on court by their sluggish movements!
