Cricketer Matt stars with ball and bat
The local cricketers have gotten the new season off to a flying start.
MATT Redinger led the way with bat and ball as Southern KwaZulu-Natal beat East Coast by eight wickets in their Promotion League A 50-over game played at Port Shepstone Country Club last Sunday.
East Coast batted first and made 156 all out in 44.1 overs.
Redinger took 3-26 in six overs, spear-heading an all-round effort from the bowlers.
Others to take wickets were: Gershion Lawrance 1-41 in 9.1 overs, Raja Kazi 2-21 in 10 overs, Sajid Tai 2-31 in 10 overs, Sahal Mansur 1-11 in five overs.
Mezelo Dingan was the sixth bowler used, returning figures of 0-18 in four overs.
In response, Southerns were never troubled. Redinger made 64 before being caught.
Lawrence made 52 not out ad Ashley Lombard made 22 before being bowled.
Morné Bishop was not out on six when the winning runs were chalked up.
The final score was 158-2 in 21.2 overs, so the batsmen did not waste their time knocking off the runs.
