Herald Fishing: Decent run for anglers this holiday season
Tuna have been on the run and some decent bottom fish have been caught.
Happy new year! Let us hope for tight lines and a prosperous 2019.
So far the weather has been perfect and the summer fish are still on the bite. With the discoloured water from the rivers going into the sea a lot of sharks will be around.
Reports have come in of anglers fishing off Stiebel in Pumula who have hooked a lot of sharks over the past week. They also hooked ribbon tail, hammerhead sharks, diamond skates and sand sharks.
Splash Rock in Port Edward is the place to be. A variety of fish was caught these over the festive period including hammerhead sharks, grey sharks and shad.
Bronze bream are still on the bite. It’s getting very late for bronze bream so if you are wanting to get a last fish for the season now is the time. Trafalgar would be the spot of choice.
Cracker shrimps work well in the discoloured water for bronze bream and stone bream.
Anglers fishing in estuaries have been having a lot of fun catching kingfish, rock salmon and perch.
The past couple of weeks provided very good fishing for anglers across most facets of freshwater fishing.
There has been a tilapia frenzy and anglers targeting these magnificent fighters have been having a lot of fun at the local dams.
Not many reports from the offshore anglers. Tuna have been on the run and some decent bottom fish have been caught.
