Herald Fishing: Chase for inedibles hots up
The main inedibles landed have been honeycombs rays, diamond skates and sand sharks during the day with the ever-present dusky sharks making an appearance at night.
With the weather being anything but stable, you have to make the most of any opportunity that Mother Nature grants you in terms of fishing.

Ruan ‘Buks’ Stewart, fishing off Splash Rock in Port Edward hooked a ragged tooth shark using a yellowtail as bait.
The female raggie was landed after an hour tussling with her. The fish measured at 2,19m with an estimated weight of 205kg.
After a couple of photos the shark was safely released.

Trishen Ramouthar of Port Shepstone landed a giant guitarfish at The Block in Port Shepstone recently.
He fought the fish for an hour and 15 minutes and landed the sandy on the Sandspit.
The fish measured 2.21m with a weight of 60.77kg. It was safely released after a quick photo.
Dean Pretorius caught a sandy at Black Rock in Port Edward at recent postal annual meet.
The fish weighed 15.4 kg and was safely released for another angler to get hooked in to.
Nathan Appalraju caught a sandy at Umzumbe recently. The fish weighed 30kg and was safely released.
As we move further in to summer, the fishing continues to pick up. This has been the case for the inedible chasers as well as the guys looking for the summer game fish.

There have been some amazing catches, with sandies on the run.
The dorado are on the bite at the moment with many guys being able to try to cross different fishing methods off their bucket list while targeting them.
This is the perfect time to have a bit of fun and get some of the family on board while catching these amazing (and great eating) fish.
Tuna are wild off the lower south coast and all the different modes of transport (ski-boat, jet-ski and kayak) are making the most of the feeding frenzy.
Anglers who have fished their secret spots have caught some very good fish, including edibles such as pompano, kingfish and stumpies while the inedibles have also been keeping the rods bent and the reels screaming.

Anglers fishing off Splash Rock in Port Edward are still having fun with the hammerhead sharks.
A lot of anglers fishing along the coast are catching their personal best by dropping baits with drones.
Bronzies are still on the bite, with reports of some decent bronze bream caught in the Trafalgar and Port Edward areas.
Shad are also biting but no fireworks.
For the fresh water anglers we all know that bass love the warmer waters, even with the dams at low levels.

There are reports of a lot of bass being caught in most of the dams on the coast and inland.
The past week the size of the bass has increased with many coming out weighing more than 2kg.
The soft plastics have been more work in the deeper water than shallow but that’s where the hard plastics come in and these have been getting the bites.
