Herald Fishing: Beat the traffic, go fishing

Reports have come in of shad on the bite at various beaches from Umzumbe to Port Edward.

With schools back in full swing and the morning traffic somewhat chaotic, it pays to get out early when going fishing.

This means you beat traffic and get to see the sun come up – not a bad way to start the day.

The competitive anglers showed that the diamond skates and sandsharks are around.

Anglers fishing off Splash Rock in Port Edward have been landing a lot of hammerhead sharks of late.

With the shad and grey sharks in the area, it is advisable to use a wire bite trace to avoid losing a good fish.

Reports have come in of shad on the bite at various beaches from Umzumbe to Port Edward.

There are still bronze bream around and the usual methods described in previous reports are advised when trying to catch them.

With all the rain we have had – and lots more to come – the rivers will flow through much fuller. Kob will enjoy feeding in the discoloured water.

Bronze bream and stone bream will also be frenzied, and cracker shrimps (mud prawns) will be the best bait to target them.

Anglers fishing for bass have had a lot fun in the past few days as it was very warm and bass like to feed on hot days.
